3 DIY Fall Scents For Your Home

Anokhi DIY Culture & Lifestyle Home Space Oct 02, 2016

Fall is upon us and it's time to get cozy with the scents of the season throughout our homes.

One of the most comforting things about the fall season is the warm and spicy scents we get to experience all around us. From pine trees and cinnamon to cloves and ginger, fall is about warming up through the senses.

Here are some easy, do-it-yourself scents you can make at home to create a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere for you and your guests.

RECIPE #1: AUTUMN'S AROMA

This particular recipe is definitely something that will be cherished during the fall season. The warm and spicy aromas do so much to warm up your soul with a wonderful fragrance throughout the house. During the Christmas holidays just add some cranberries to the mix and you can have the smell of Christmas cheer all around you.

2. Once water comes to a boil, reduce heat to the lowest setting and allow mixture to simmer slowly.

RECIPE #2: CITRUS CONCOCTION

Citrus fruits and rosemary are two of my favourite things when cooking. Their natural aromas are just so fresh and unique. This particular home scent is great during the summer too.

RECIPE #3: RAAT KI RANI

Jasmine is part of every South Asian home and lifestyle. Whether they adorn the mandhirs we visit on weekends or strewn throughout our home shrines, the smell is intoxicating and a wonderful scent to have throughout the house.

3 TIPS FOR YOUR DIY HOME SCENT RECIPES

1. Make your scent into a home air freshner or linen spritz.

Once you finish with the recipes above, discard the solids and pour the water into an inexpensive spray bottle. Now you have an all-natural spritz to spray into the air to freshen the smell indoors or to use as a linen spray on your sheets and pillows.

2. Use mason jars to bring scent and decor into any room.

The scented water from the recipes above can simply be put into mini mason jars. Keep some of the solids to add some decorative flair and put these jars throughout your home. Pop off the lids to bring in the scent, and pop them back on when you're done. Add a floating votive candle on top for ambience. You can even add a few drops of your favourite esentials oils too.

3. Create your own candles at home.

This is possibly the most fun way to use your scented water. Buy an at-home candle-making kit and just mix in some of the scented water with the candle wax. Use the solids to help add character to your candles. Burn at your desire. (Be sure to follow the instructions with the kit you buy for optimal results.)
