Music Is Good For The Soul

Music is one of life’s entertaining pleasures that I have personally overlooked during my childhood and most of my adulthood. However, it is in more recent years that an appreciation of this art form and surprising gift has opened up my heart and healed it in many instances.

The importance of music cannot be underestimated as it has the ability to soothe a soul grieving for a loved one and inspire those lacking in hope. Music does more than make our lives better; music keeps us sane. Studies show that 53 per cent of people listen to music every single day so I know many of you know what I am talking about.

Here are some key ways how music can benefit you:

A Healthy Way To Express Feelings

Music has been proven to change our moods. This is why shoppers use it, why therapists recommend it and why it is played in the gym. Music has the power to whisk you away on an extended journey, take you back to another time or make a single moment feel like it will last forever. Music can also suggest movement and colour, providing emotional stimulus through the human senses.

Many studies have shown that music has the ability to rouse specific emotions pertaining to certain scales, chords, and harmonies. Next time you listen to music, take a moment to reflect on how it makes you feel and let yourself go there to unveil a possible suppressed emotion.

Connection Between Individuals

Whether it’s connecting one culture to a community or even two individuals who are vastly different, music has the ability to make connections.

Music is a universal language as it transcends boundaries by allowing us to speak and tell our stories on a grand scale. Certain songs are played all over the world, acting as a common denominator between countries on opposite sides of the planet, even when they speak different languages.

Inspirational

One of the first and most commonly known uses for music was for religious and sacred tribal events. Some of the earliest recorded moments in music took place in the medieval times with choral pieces for church prayers, not to forget the flute playing of Krishna. Specific harmonies created moods that illicit a spiritual experience.

Even today, music is used in churches and by religious groups the world over and many people claim it is the key to God and to a holy, more fulfilling life. The spiritual aspects of music can also lead to healing benefits much of which I will write more about in a future blog.

Fuels Creativity

Simply stated, music allows us to dream and is the key to imagination. It fuels the mind and ignites creativity, allowing us to make discoveries and innovations. It can put us in a meditative state that allows our souls to create what we desire. Use music in your unique way to dream more, create more in your life and take you to places you thought were unimaginable.

So, when was the last time you listened to music, whether live or recorded? How has it stirred your soul? Share your thoughts with us and any other benefits music has had in your life.
